LA VOICES: Versa-Style Street Dance Company- FREE SHOW
“ORIGINS of Hip Hop” is a 60-minute interactive performance that pays homage to the evolution of Hip Hop through African and Latin social dances, the 1970s Funk Era, to today. Versa-Style’s company members will perform high energy dance pieces that educate and inspire, as well as tell the stories of the history of various Street Dance styles such as popping, locking, whacking, and Hip Hop. Audiences will also learn about the dancers’ life stories and how they came to be in the company. The performance will end by inviting audiences to stand in their seats and learn some moves with artists on stage.

Tribute: Guardians of Street Dance
“Tribute: Guardians of Street Dance” marks the 20th anniversary of Versa-Style Street Dance Company, celebrating the legacy and evolution of Hip Hop and street dance. Debuting on the Carpenter Center’s dance stage, this uplifting and energetic performance pays homage to Hip Hop and street dance artists including Rennie Harris, Damita Jo Freeman, and Toni Basil, as well as late legends such as Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Marjory Smarth. With photo and video elements woven into high-energy choreography, the piece honors the roots and future of styles like Hip Hop, house, popping, locking, and more. A moving tribute to both renowned and unsung innovators, the evening promises a powerful celebration of dance culture.
